Something I have wondered for most of my life...why do bus drivers open and close doors when crossing railroad tracks?

So you can jump off if the bus gets stuck on them. I am kidding but now that I think of it it makes sense.

School bus drivers are required to under state law (http://www.mass.gov/legis/laws/mgl/90-15.htm, if you're interested). It is not required of transit bus drivers, but some do it anyway.

I saw RTS 0120 this morning chained down on a flatbed trailer on I-93, on its way back from rebuild at Midwest Bus in Michigan. I had assumed they actually drove them back on their own (many new buses are delivered that way), but apparently they're trucking them back instead.

0120 had been assigned to Cabot before it was sent out for rebuild, but it looks like they get delivered to Everett when they come back. Maybe it will be reassigned to Lynn like some of the other recent rebuilds have been. They certainly need newer stuff there!

well, Everett is the main repair depot, so that makes sense.

As for the doors, It's so they can hear if a train is coming.

The 77 bus goes by North Cambridge Carhouse, or if you're lucky, you could catch a 77A trackless trolley.

Interesting ride today...
On a NABI CNG (don't remember which number it way) a wheelchair person was boarding and the wheelchair ramp didn't work! The driver had to manually pull it up and push it down and the same to put it back.

Not even a year's old and already screwing up...

Lynn Garage finally has some brand new equipment... Neoplan AN440LF diesel buses 0403 and 0406 are now in service.

That was quick... 0403 was delivered only about a week or so ago!
