I saw the 3248 switching with the 1064 on Grand Jct. yesterday. Would that be the Readville Switcher? Or is 1064 headed north?

It looked like the front most engine in the long hood was initially the only one being used, then the middle engine turned on or something. I was shocked at how quiet it was. All I could hear was 1064 idling!

The 3248 is on the Readville Switcher. As of Saturday the 904 and the 3249 were at BET idling away.

Really? I thought the engines on the gen-set switcher weren't supposed to idle for long periods...

"Idling" would mean different things for a genset than for a traditional locomotive.

We used both the 3249 and the 904 this past weekend on the BET switcher, my engineer didn't care much for the Genset, we had much more fun using the veteren 904. Both air conditioners on the 3249 have failed, Readville crew says the same thing has happened with the 3248. The engineer claims the seats are like sitting on a sack of grain, I don't care for the extremely curved pilot plows, very difficult to get in between to couple the air hoses and the 3249 has a tendancy to surge forward just as the couplers are about to engage, making for a very rough hitch.

I wonder if the Lemon Law applies to those air conditioners?

Yay new stuff always works. Does this mean it looks like 904 will stick around longer?

Every night, theres always a switcher hooked up to at least 1 loco at South Station (presumably to get a form D). It used to be 904's job, but I guess they're using 3248 now.

About what time do they arrive in South Station?

Last time I was with them, we got there somewhere around 9-10pm.

The 904 is now shut down and stored on the "Callahan" track at Boston Engine Terminal. According to the 2nd trick foreman, the 904 needs a one year test and nobody is in a hurry to do it, too much other stuff taking priority. He says there hasn't been any discussion as to what to do with her other than that the General Foreman has recommended that it be retired and sold.

Which track is the "Callahan Track"? I don't recall hearing that name when I was working at BET.
