Sell 904 to Guilford :P Just Kidding.

NERail is down (as of right now while I am typing this) so I'll just leave these here....

I thought I heard that 904 will be retired and 3247 will stay around for the rescue engine.

This past Wednesday, bmcdr advised us:
Talked with the General Foreman today, he's made a pitch to keep 3247, but recommends that 904 be retired and disposed of.

3248 was shipped over to Readville on Tuesday 4/29 and has yet to be used in service. 3249 was used on the 2nd trick Diesel House switcher the week of 4/20 to 4/25 and has now been pushed out back with the 902.

I saw 3249 out back when I drove by the BET today.

Thought: if the new GSets are equiped with 480 volt cable ports, then wouldn't they have HEP? if not, maybe the MBTA could lease some of the BL14GH's from CDOT

They have HEP for rescue moves.

They do not have HEP! They are capable of passing through HEP like an Amtrak box car.

CDOT can't spare locos... And to be honest the need to lease locos isn't really the issue with our power. We need to replace it!

This is a switcher topic. P40s are not switchers! Moving on...

No, that style of loco is technically not supposed to be used in daily yard switching operations.

F40PH-2Cs are technically not supposed to be used for the work train either. But that doesn't stop them from using them that way.

Assuming that logic works in this case, we'll probably see the gensets doing stuff that they weren't designed to do. (no, they're not going to fly)

Let's not argue back and forth what a Genset can and can't do or what an F-40 can or can't do, as John pointed out, this thread is about the new Genset switchers. At the moment neither the 3248 or the 3249 are doing anything for some unexplained reason.
