Maybe related to the pass the Sperry car did a month or so back? Could be part of the rumored class IV upgrade.

I think it is just making its visit to the area. Roughly a month ago, it "grinded" the Amtrak mainline and it has been sitting in Readville the last few weeks, up on the old yard abutting the Dorchester branch

Must be the same grinder I saw heading east just west of State Line around Thanksgiving, then.
"The destination of this train is [BEEP BEEP]" -announcement on an Ashmont train.

The grinder was working the B&A again Sunday night. Looks like they ground track 2 first, then on Sunday, ground track 1.
