3417 question

Postby MBTA3247 » Sat Apr 28, 2012 6:18 pm

On either end of 3417 (the rerailing car), there's a pair of plugs that have been added just above the left-hand headlight. I'm sure they're for hooking up rerailing equipment, but are they electrical or hydraulic connections? Thanks.

I believe they are air lines. In the Gov't Center wreck 3417 followed the wreck with these lines hooked up to the wrecked Type 7. I am thinking it serves to activate an emergency brake on equipment being towed that cannot get it's air via the coupler. Not 100% sure though. Here is a photo I snapped the night of the wreck: http://sery2831.smugmug.com/Trains/3612 ... t&lb=1&s=L

Green line LRV 3491

Postby jr145 » Tue Jun 05, 2012 8:01 pm

Anyone have any pictures of it when it was in service? I have a souvenir that I got from it before it was destroyed and I was hoping to get a picture to put next to it. I found a few pictures of it when it was at Riverside but I can't find any recent ones of it in service.

Google "Boston LRV 3491". I got a few likely hits.

I found a couple but most are either blurry or too small. I'm hoping to find a decent sized one so I can print it and put it under the item.
