Anybody know why it is so taking so long for the last four of New Blue Cars to enter Service?

The last 4 were actually the first 4 to be delivered. They were the pilot (test) cars that didn't have all of the software, certain bits of harware, etc that are in the cars that came after them. The doors aren't painted, and they probably are missing some parts. They will be (or already have been) sent back to Siemens to fix up. Then, they will send them back, and they will be tested, then they will enter service.

Just to clear things up, the first 3 pairs delivered are all in service. 0714/15 was an early pair brought directly to the Heights, it was tested, but never put in service. I believe it was originally the mechanical test/training unit. But later they used it for parts I am told. Not sure of its current status. 0700/01 was the unit used to test mods at the factory. It was delivered directly to the Heights towards the end of the order. This car did not have all it's decals in testing at the factory but now has all the decals. Same with the first pair that went to Wellington which is now in service.

Here is a picture of 0701 taken recently: http://sery2831.smugmug.com/Trains/Blue ... YJ9GE-A-LB

As it was posted previous 0714/15 were the cars used for spare parts until more replacement parts arrived. A quick talk with the shop foreman the other day Siemans is putting the cars back together.

While I wouldn't want a repeat of the Breda debacle, it is kind of sad to see the program come to an end.

I guess we still have the new Orange Line cars to look forward to in the semi-near future.

I think the Siemans company has proven to be a solid company, since they had no big problems with the cars. And had a 4 car set sent a head of the production cars to iorn out any problems that would arise and pass them along to the New York plant to make the modifiaction before it was shipped to the property. So hope the T goes with this company again for future cars.

Now it just remains to be seen whether the Siemens cars will hold up better in the salt air than the Hawker-Siddeleys did.

They did not use corten steel which was used on the #4 cars and it is not just salt air that they have to contend with it is also the jet fuel too.

Anyone know why they would still be running a four car train of the 700 series. At State on the outbound platform shortly before 6:00 a four car train had pulled in. I was standing on the end of the platform where the 5th or 6th car would pull up to.
I was surprised when I had to chase the train up the platform. I was jammed packed so I decided to let it go. IIRC, the last two cars were 708 & 709. Could it be that the total number in the current fleet isn't divisible by 6 or could it have been that a couple of the cars were disabled?

It could of been a fluke or not enough equipment to cover the rush with all 6 car trains due to maintence. Don't forget they did run the Hawkers with 4 only. Not sure how they are qualifying the opertaors today but when the 6 car test trains were being burned in the operators had to be qualified on the new equipment as well as running with 6. Not sure if they train the new operators with 4 cars then move them up to 6. So those are my 2 cents.

Earlier this week, Wed IIRC around 6:35pm a train passed through State that was signed as "TEST TRAIN." Would this be the latest set of the 700s that there were taking for a "test drive"? Unfortunately I didn't think to check out the numbers on any of the cars.

I caught one on December 1st.

Cars 0715/0714, 0736/0737.

The Blue Line seems to test more frequently than all the other lines, I had assumed it's always the same test train though, now I'm not sure.

All new equipment must have a certain amount of miles on them before they can see passengers. All the test trains spotted on the Blue Line were burn in runs to get the miles on them. 0714/0715 were used from sort of mechanical training or a parts source. The cars never got accepted. Seeing them in a test train must mean they are about to be accepted and enter service. If anyone spots them taking passengers please post as that will mean the entire 0700 car fleet is in service for the first time.
