801 becomes 8805 which becomes 814. 810 is the last set out of Pawtucket.

Ah, thanks for the info. I always assumed 8805/814 was a Pawtucket set since it starts out as an 880X train.

So 800, 802, 804, 806, 808, 810 are all Pawtucket-based then? I know 812 is the 803 turn, which starts in Boston obviously.

On the flipside, I assume these are the six trains that terminate in Pawtucket (based on lack of an immediate following inbound train): 823, 827, 831, 835, 837, 839?

Several delays and cancelations of short turn trains on the Eastern this morning. Second day in a row due to multiple earlier mechanical issues.

What's up with all of the equipment failures recently? All over the place on the Worcester line.

So, I saw this alert:

Salem Station: The passenger pickup/drop-off area (kiss and ride) will be re-located to Bridge Street on weekdays 7/17- 8/11 to accommodate shuttle bus traffic.

Did they really mean Kiss and ride? If so what does kiss stand for? I doubt it means make out then board your train. If it does, sign me up.

That is a legitimate term for where a car can drop off passengers and drive away.

It relates because I kiss my girl then I ride the train. If you read any report where a station is being built or rebuilt there will be a section on Kiss and Rides.

Park and Ride = You park your car and get on the train. (there are parking spaces)
Kiss and Ride = Your spouse/sweetheart/last night's hookup drops you off and drives the car away while you get on the train. (no parking, just dropoff)

Both terms go back to at least the 1970s, maybe late 60s. As an aside, when Metro North opened the Brewster North (now Southeast) station on the Harlem Line in the 1980s, the two new control points at the ends of the platform were named PARK and RIDE.
