Train fire - South Station 6/27

Postby dbperry » Sat Jun 27, 2015 8:29 am

Per twitter, a train fire was reported just before 6 AM on track 13 in South Station. No pictures, and the information was scanty, but didn't sound like a huge fire (from firefighter's perspective). Bus terminal was evacuated due to heavy smoke condition. Fire was reportedly in a commuter rail locomotive. Boston Fire department cleared the scene just after 6 AM.

Anybody have more info?

Is HEP replacement normally a job that BET can do? Is damage more extensive than BET capabilities? Perhaps it will just go on a dead line and be designated as one of the locos replaced by the HSP-46's?

At least the fire didn't happen during an evening rush hour. Panic, potential injuries, and resultant delays could have been worse than actual fire.
