MBTA Head End Power Systems

Does anyone have ideas to what type of HEP units the GP40 engines, MP36's and all types F40 as well use? Also are the HEP and Comm jumper cables between cars similar and standards to most 480v commuter rail systems? For example, could you couple a Amtrak Amfleet, MBTA MBB, NJT Comet etc. and connect the HEP jumpers to power the entire consist?

The 480v HEP system is a standard in the US. If the car is equipped with the system you can mix and match cars. Not all cars are set up for push/pull service though. Cars for push/pull service have a MU/Comm cable pass through, these cables are universal locomotive cables. Some systems have cars with one set of MU/Comm cables, requiring cars to be faced in one direction. (Example NJT:http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=182032&nseq=8 ) And some systems like the MBTA have two sets and the cars can be faced in any direction.

The F40 Rebuilds also have some sort of CAT HEP engine in them, not too sure on the type.
