Polar Express 2013

Postby Badandy » Sat Nov 09, 2013 2:32 pm

Are there any plans this year for a Polar Express from either Salem or Beverly, or any other stop along
the Newburyport/Rockport branch? We have a 3 yr. old grandson who's absolutely train nuts.

I don't know if there's a polar express that makes it's way around all the lines, but I think residents of Malden, Melrose, Wakefield, and Reading all pitched in for a polar express train on the Haverhill Line last winter. I think it ran something like three times one Saturday. Don't know about other lines.

2 yrs. ago there was 3 or 4 Polar Express trains that originated in Beverly, went to Newburyport, and returned to Beverly.
I found out about them when it was too late. There was no advertisement for them. Last year there was nothing. I figure
someone here could possibly give me a heads up.

All the Polar Express trains are private charters. Associations or schools organize these trips for fund raisers. The amount of charters have significantly decreased over the last two years since the popularity of the movie has seemed to be fading. There are always the ones in NH on the Conway Scenic and Hobo RR.

Pretty much any northbound train after dusk on Christmas Eve (especially the last departures of the night) could be considered a "Polar Express" of sorts ;-)
