My Old Home MBTA Movies

Postby sery2831 » Thu Jul 11, 2013 12:34 am

EDIT: Anyone with older MBTA Videos that they personally took/uploaded... Please post a link and a brief back story to the video here.

I uploaded a video that I took when I was 17 today. I am not quite sure where it belongs here, so if anyone know of the thread it belongs in let me know...

The video below was taken in Sept, 1997 where a Guilford local is dropping off rebuilt 200 series cars. While all these cars have plates saying rebuilt in NY, I know I have seen pictures somewhere of a series of these cars undergoing the rebuild on the Hobo RR. Along with the cars is MBB Car #1525 which has been parted out at BET for several years now. It went to the Hobo RR to get the doors powered up and new seats, and possibly a new bathroom. On the tail is one of the two ex B&M snow plows the Hobo RR totally rebuilt.

Enjoy! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9wbp9Sqt29U

What's the story behind those freight cars laying on their side?

It was the Conrail local going to Chelsea. It was the first day for that engineer making the move on his own. Didn't work out so well!

I heard that story from a YouTube clip I found of a ride along in the cab of an f-40. The engineer said that the freight train was going over the 10mph speed limit and as you pointed out it was his first day on the job. Someone inside the cab said that story didn't get even make local news.

Wow, John, you're younger than I am.

I'm guessing that was the fellow's last day running the Chelsea local.

It was not. He went onto work for three other railroads after. Last I knew he no longer works for a railroad though as of recent. MBTA FAN, you have ZERO knowledge of this incident, please do no make assumptions!

As far as my access. This was all made possible by my volunteer status/part time employment at the Seashore Trolley Museum. There is a much longer video that I have also posted that has more video of the wreck and movements of equipment in that area.

NEW video.

When I was 14 I was able to film the Blue Line. Here is my work, this video I took all on the surface of the line(Airport to Wonderland). And a ride through the wash at Orient Heights and into the yard is included. When I was converting it to VHS I had recorded Big Band music over most of the movie, and that's a violation of Youtube rules. So here is the video with no audio. Next one to come will be footage of the Mattapan - Ashmont High Speed line from 1994.

This is lit'rally the best silent film I've seen :-) Those older (Hawker-Siddley?) cars looked so new then!

Thanks. Those cars had just gone through a fresh repaint before that video was taken. I believe the only repaint they ever got.

Almost 20 years old, and so much has changed. I was 14 at the time and what a flash back. Thanks for posting this.

The cars were stored on every available track in Concord NH. Watched NEGS pull a few north, but didn't have a camera.
