Copley Square Explosion 4/15/13

Postby BostonUrbEx » Mon Apr 15, 2013 2:09 pm

There's been two explosions in the Copley Square area, not far from the Boston Marathon Finish Line. There are multiple severe injuries ("missing limbs") and suspected mass casualties.

The MBTA is shutting all services within a wide radius of the event.

It is unclear what caused the explosion.

EDIT: According to Universal Hub, all available ambulances are being called to Copley Square, immediately.

3:15PM -- All Green Line service is being suspended between Kenmore and Park (not Government Center?), with E Line service unclear. Orange Line service is still serving Back Bay for now. Red and Orange lines are bypassing Downtown Crossing for some reason, now.

WBZ is reporting that law enforcement is not sure if the area is yet secure, so I expect that is related to the breadth of the service suspension.

Suspicious devices are appearing all over the city. Although I've only heard of two of them (which have already been dismantled/intentionally detonated) actually being bombs. I'd urge you all not to go riding around to check out the scene or the MBTA operations during this incident. My company is getting a van to get those of us still at work to our homes.

I tried so hard to get a good picture of the E with Northeastern as the destination. The sun kept ruining it. Not sure why they only went to Brigham Circle though. There wasn't traffic or anything further down on Huntington and they were all backed up trying to switch to go back towards Northeastern.

Copley Station is expected to be closed for another 24 hours or longer as several blocks of Boylston are being treated as crime scenes for the foreseeable future.

Hope everyone is ok in ur families. Mass ave bridge is still closed as of 10pm. Shout out to all Boston police, fire, ems and everyone who helped the injured right after the bombs went off. There was a swat truck outside of brigham and women's hospital around 8:30-9 tonight. Im glad I stayed home today and watched the marathon on tv.

First Newtown and now this. You're not safe anywhere anymore. I know everyone around here will pull through this.
As I said on twitter earlier today "don't mess with our city". Someone actually used FDR's famous line from December 8th 1941 and as FDR once said "this day will live in infamy".

Boston will grow stronger and won't be put down. Hope everyone's family is ok and made it home safely today.
On a side note I hope 3rdrail(Paul) is ok and wasn't down in that area of boyalston st when the blast happened.

Flags are probably gonna be at halfstaff this week or for at least a few days.
