Yesterday around 4:30 I saw 1067 pushing an inbound train and a red bag over the coupler of the locos nose caught my attention. Why was the bag over the coupler and why are they only on the locos?

They're referred to as knuckle bags, or colloquially, knuckle condoms. As was mentioned, they're to help keep snow and ice out. They're used on the control cars, too. We've been using them on and off for about 3 years now. It was the winter 3-4 years ago where we had a lot of snow, ice and cold, and we were having problems making up double drafts because everything was frozen (fusees wouldn't work in some instances because the entire knuckle was a giant ball of ice).

They don't last long; if they get taken off they don't wind up getting stored on the equipment, and I've seen a few sets running around with clear trash bags wrapped over the knuckle.

One of the Gensets was in the Worcester layover yard this evening, facing west and coupled to the east end of a trainset. The set was, if I recall correctly, led by a stretch F40 with a mix of flats and doubles.

The genset is there again tonight, facing east and tied on to the west end of a trainset.
Hoping for a rebirth of the Screamer fleet.

There was an issue with a trainset a few days ago that required a protect crew to fetch it from the yard and bring to Boston, on the other hand the genset has been serving as a protect engine.

Running east through Yawkey means it *came* from BET... or Worcester. If coming from the former location, it seems odd that they'd send a locomotive individually on such a move instead of waiting for the Readville Switcher to take it over during the night.

I heard something come through Kendall Sq (sorry, no view of the tracks, just heard the horn) shortly before the report of it at Yawkey. Occasionally you'll see a single unit make a move during the middle of the day - my guess is when the south side turns up one unit short for the afternoon rush.
Wondering if I'll see the Haverhill double-tracking finished before I retire...

FYI, the 10002 inspection car is heading your way to patrol the MBTA tracks for a week. I don't know the routes it will test, but it arrives on or about the 3rd and is supposed to depart on or about the 11th.

Roughly.

Sorry to ask such an obvious question, but 4/10 - 4/11 BET to Southampton will be by the Grand Junction correct?
