Why wouldn't they be able to? They have ran one on each side since they've been delivered.

The 3247 is the only loco without cab signals.

In the early AM, I spotted a consist with an Amtrak coach at the Widett layover. I was unable to discern if it was a geometry car set as I drove by, but I assume it was.

My unscientific observation during my daily commute this week tells me there is a bilevel shortage. Consists that normally have four plus two flats now have three plus three, the 8 car superset on the Providence line tonight only had 7 cars, and the 3:30 Providence had a 5 + 1 set rather than the normal 6 + 0.

There's a big car shortage, systemwide. On the north side, there are four 4-car sets, one of them all flats.

Last week on the south side I was on a five car flat set.

5 flats isn't that unusual, the set that gets used on Needham train 606 has often been that configuration over the last several years
I did ride another 4 car train yesterday on #608, mixed flats and bilevels.

The five flat train I was on was a Stoughton train that usually has a mix of 3F+2K or 2F+3K.

This afternoon I saw an outbound Worcester local (I think it was 529 - I passed it on the Pike), that was HSP-B-B-F-B.

As of Tuesday morning, there were 25 cars OOS in Readville alone....3/4 of them being double deckers of various K/R cars....I said it in a post some time ago, but it is going to be last summer all over again regarding the car shortages on the sets

Car shortage is hitting the high priority sets as well. 508/527 is now a 7 double, 1 flat train vs the usual 8 doubles and the extra capacity is certainly missed.

It's a shame that Kawasaki will have its hands full for years to come with the M9 and the WMATA 7000 orders. A spec order of 70 K-cars built to the Alstom rebuild standard needed to be put in two years ago.
