Not too long ago, I went by Cabot Central Yard, and I saw 01816 and 01817 sitting in the closest track to the CR, probably the test track. Does anyone know what was wrong with these two 18's? They also had a coupler bright orange plastic cover covering the couplers.

Last night 08/11/04, I gained 01857, with open seat only to get whacked with bad news again, an occupied window (ad), thus forcing me to do the half-kneel-on seat-half stand on floor stunt in order to get the best view of the house. Last time was the other way around, with open window, although seat spoken for by the VERY SAME PASSENGER from being able to reach that seat at Park Street ALL THE WAY down to Braintree, they wouldn't even leave at Quincy Adams, which would have been a bit nicer for me......

Also, the ASA was fine, and so was A/C, although its mate and the second coach, 01856 was down due to safety problems, and as a result, the remainder of the train shut down for the evening at Braintree.

I finally got a good one on the way home today. I had to run errands this week to UMass Boston. On Monday and Tuesday, just 15/16/17's. But today, #01826 came my way, with a window wide open. Oh, and I didn't notice any ASA glitches or AC problems this time.

Got one, but it had a blocked window

#01830 came my way on the way back from UMass today. Its window was double-ad'ed so I had to stand in the area next to the seat. The AC worked ok and ASA had no problems that I noticed.

Well, U Know what I would do in that case.............

And still as of this Morning, 01816 and 17 still sit at Cabot, due to the ongoing Test Brake Inspection Program, that's what someone said. Don't know when 01816/17 will be released from the "lockup cell".

I spoke with a friend of mine who works at Cabot Shops its a stupid reason 01817-16 ae OOS is because they took the parts off that train set and put it on 01830-31 so they could return to service. So now 01816-17 are sidelined till they get the parts needed to get the set fully operational. Hope that helps  Stevie

That way we can even out the wear on all the married pairs in the fleet -- eventually the parts will be taken out of each pair, so they all get the same amount of OOS time!

Ooooooooh..............I get it now.

So 01816/17's parts got hijacked and commandered to place them on 01830/31, huh?

Alrighty then, I hope that they go to Bombardier of Canada or Plattsburg and obtain new parts for 01816/17 to replace the ones now on 01830/31.

The T SHOULD NOT be hijacking parts from existing car and to put them in others that went damaged, they should go to the vendor manufacturing facilities instead, that's my opinion.

Parts availability for the 01800s has apparently been a problem for a long time. 01830/31 sat at Cabot for nearly four years before returning to service, and only then because 01816/17 became organ donors. What parts seem to be the problem here?

Oh and StevieC, next time you talk to your buddy at Cabot, can you ask him (or her) what's up with 01520/21 and 01744/45? They've been out of service all year, as far as I can tell.

I guess the MBTA isn't using its head by going to the Bombardier manufacturer themselves at Plattsburg, NY or Thunder Bay, ON to obtain parts rather than hijack them from other cars. I don't know why T officials arent going this route, but I know for sure that other transit systems are going to their car manufacturers to obtain such parts for their rolling stock.......

Something's definitely wrong with the T here, I don't like it.

As for the older cars, they will have to go to MKO or Alstom to get such replacement material to get 01520/21 and 01744/45 going once again.

Go into www.nycrail.com click on Boston Rail then Cabot shops and you will see a photo of 01831 before it got put back together. I took the webmaster over to Cabot shops for a tour and Orient hts and he got some amazing shots. Let me know what you think of the pictures..Stevie

Did you mean www.nycrail.com ? Those are some nice photos of the abandoned portal by the way.

Yeah I see that portal too from the trains usually, and this was the first time I got to see anything inside those portals from those photos.

But the author should have gotten closer to the 01400 misc. train and gotten better shots of them :-)

I also got to see 01831 in REALLY bad shape..................plus 01520/21 and 01754/55.
