Charlie - The Mascot

Looks like Wally will have some company in Boston now...

I wonder if the T is assigning one employee to be Charlie, or if they'll have staff rotate. How often do you think we'll be seeing Charlie around the system itself?

But will he ever return? And who will play his wife, and how will she hand him the sandwich these days?

Isn't it kind of funny that the T adopted a symbol of high, complicated fares as its mascot? I agree he's a good symbol and people mostly don't think of him that way, but upon reflection it's ironic.

and why didn't she hand him the money he'd need for the exit fare, which he didn't need to get off the train, only to get out of the station?
I thought it was a plus for the authority to have adopted this symbol, a way for them to show they could take a joke. Also there's the concept of owning an insult, which then takes away some of the power that insult has over you.

The adoption of mascots has in the past and by other entities seemed to have been a sign of desperation. Will the other parts of MassDOT be similarly mascotted?

Always wondered why she didn't give him a nickel, since I was a kid.

True, owning an insult can work. Yankee Doodle, anyone?
