WMATA expanding waterproofing trial

The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) is expanding a pilot of a new waterproofing membrane along the Red Line.

The agency will continue installing the material along another 4,000-foot section of inbound track between the Medical Center and Grosvenor stations. The material is injected into the tunnel walls to form a waterproof membrane on the exterior of tunnel walls.

The work is aimed at mitigating leaks that could cause arcing insulator incidents.

It looks like the sample 2,000 foot stretch they were testing on... is working. Hopefully it'll work for longer stretches and dry out the entire tunnel.

My only concern with this is where does the water go instead? The NATM waterproofing also includes drainage under the tunnel to carry that water away. Water is an incredibly persistent and merciless SOB. If there's a gap, it will find it. So I just hope this doesn't just push the water to a different hole in the tunnel.
