Safe Track Surge 14 now a SHUTDOWN from Greenbelt to CP/PG

Postby smallfire85 » Thu Mar 30, 2017 2:51 pm

Metro has announced the details for the next Safe Track surge to take place on the Green line next month. They've changed it from a single track between Greenbelt and College Park to a full shutdown between Greenbelt and Prince George's Plaza, which will be shortened to College Park as the surge progresses.

Doesn't this mean that the Greenbelt yard will be isolated for the duration?

Most likely. They will probably spread the load of active cars to Alexandria and Branch and wherever else they need to fit cars, send any major truck issues to Brentwood, and keep all the longer-term overhaul projects assigned to Greenbelt there. It'll probably be similar to what they did for the NoMa-Fort Totten shutdown which isolated Brentwood.

Only in the sense that It will not be accessible at a moments notice. The total shutdown allow more elbow room to expedite the work that needs to be done. You can be pretty sure that both tracks will not be rendered totally impassable by revenue equipment during the entire duration of the shutdown.
