What's MARC Doing In Farmingdale ?

Postby newkirk » Sat Aug 12, 2017 4:21 pm

About 11:00 am this morning, I heard the distinct horns of a DE-30 and thought it was a Greenport "scoot" returning from refueling and cleaning.

It piqued my curiosity that there were more than the usual three coaches and when I looked, it was the Port Jeff consist with MARC coaches and DE-30's at both ends.

Anyone know what's up ?

They're on loan to LIRR, I believe for the summer, to supplement the Diesel fleet. :-D

Look for a thread called "LIRR seeks to lease 8-21 MARC coaches (for Montauk Summer)"

I believe he's asking why they were on the Main and not the PJ branch.

"I believe he's asking why they were on the Main and not the PJ branch."

Perhaps for training of new engineers ?

More likely equipment shuffling that happens. They needed the equipment from Long Island Station to Ronkonkoma to fill in for a train, maybe?
I ride the (MTA Maryland) Penn Line (between Odenton and Baltimore). I used to work for MTA Maryland's IT department, and out of professional courtesy my responses may be limited. Wikimapia is wonderful (for track/interlocking locations)!
