LIRR Ridership Books from the '80s

Postby rr503 » Mon May 29, 2017 7:23 pm

Hey,

Does anyone here (I'm looking at you, Mr. Lynch!) know where I could find old LIRR ridership data, broken down either by line or station? I'm focusing on the '80s, but data from the '70s or '90s works too.

Thanks a million!!

Well it appears to be a Google hunt, for example:
https://www.dot.ny.gov/divisions/policy-and-strategy/public-trans-respository/lirr_0.pdf
http://web.mta.info/mta/news/books/docs/2015-LIRR-Annual-Ridership-Report.pdf
http://thelirrtoday.weebly.com/uploads/2/9/2/5/29251715/2014_12dec-08_historical_operating_finalweb.pdf

All current material and a dead end for your 30+ year need.

But...going back, Hmm. My suggestion is to tap into NEWSDAY.com and search their files for info in the era you're seeking. BTW: What is the focus of your ridership inquiry as perhaps we are looking in the wrong place?

Thanks so much for these!

I'm looking to track changes in ridership since the 80s as part of a larger analysis of commute flows on LI since then. Because it's more general both ridership by line or by station would work.

Thanks again!

Edit: I've realized that data from the '70s would be best, but I understand that will be difficult to find.
