Looking at LIRR rosters, I noticed LIRR always favored ACF and Pullman products and never ordered any new equipment from St. Louis Car. Was there an anti-St. Louis bias at Jamaica Station HQ? NYCT favored St. Louis Car in the postwar years, and many main line carriers including UP, Northern Pacific, SOU and MoPac had been noted customers as well (although Pullman was favored in New England perhaps because of its Osgood-Bradley plant in Worcester).
Since my friend continues to chain smoke nonstop, she is probably an Alco.
Note: Just an opinion... As a PRR "step-child" Pullman was going to be favored for parts, repair, familiarity, upgrade and training purposes. Note a similar pattern for the Baldwin and ALCO S1-2 roster in 1949 plus, or the later ALCO RS1-3, C420's, series engine purchases. Concerning ACF: Perhaps the same dynamic in place as the Pullman and engine fleet? Folks?
