I read that when these cars are done testing they will be going back to Yonkers for refitting to production standards.

Anyone else here this?

Someone posted a video on YouTube of a six-car consist of M9's (without aid of M7's) flying through Wantagh with the horn blaring. They look smooth, run smooth, and the horn is a clear difference with a mix of the M7 horn and one that I've never heard before.
This station is Babylon, this is the train to Penn Station. Stopping at: Lindenhurst, Copiague, Amityville, Massapequa Park, Massapequa, Seaford, Wantagh, Bellmore, Merrick, Freeport, Baldwin, Rockville Centre, Lynbrook, Valley Stream, Jamaica, Kew Gardens, Forest Hills, Woodside, Penn Station.

Interesting. I possibly saw that same set of M-9's testing westbound thru Massapequa yesterday around 7pm. Lead car #9013. :-D

The M1's were delivered between October and November 1968 before the first revenue using the new cars on December 30th, 1968. They even had the motto, "14 by Halloween."

First revenue M1: Babylon Branch.
First revenue M7: Long Beach Branch.
First revenue M9: What branch do you think will get lucky?

Probably the one I just photographed, heading back to Hillside for the day.

That train passed at least three times in both directions today.

1. What might be the spotting differences between M9 and M9A?
2. I see no photos, yet, of M9 #2009 and #2012, as they are paired behind #2010 and #2011, thus no front images.

"Nines at Republic" Long Island Rail Road & Kawasaki Heavy Industry's M9 Test Train head west past the former Republic Station on LIRR Main Line, 3/11/2019. The six car train is making several runs throughout the LIRR system, testing each function the railcars have to offer. Republic station, which opened in 1940, served Republic Airport and employees of Fairchild Aircraft manufacturing company until being closed in 1980. All that remains are the staircases that lead passengers from NY Route 110 to the platform which are seen in the foreground and background of this photo. Photo/Archive/Info: Greg Grice

None of the M9s are numbered in the 2000's. They're all 9000's.

Quite possible from what I saw today. At the Kawasaki plant on trucks was the 9002 & 9018 with their mates. Also there on truck tires were 9027,9028,9029, 9030,9031,9032. Some PATH cars there also
