CTA Melting Ice on the Third Rail....

Postby BucktownJim » Fri Feb 12, 2016 9:51 pm

Seen on an L train this morning by one of my friends. Believe it was on the Brown Line.

Not entirely sure what's going on there, but it looks like some sort of science project....

This was setup on an in service car? Not in a work car,it's a "quick+dirty" spray setup to remove light ice
deposits on the 3rd rail instead of breaking out the scraper shoes.
That's not passenger friendly if there's a spill. :(

That is indeed a revenue train. I've seen such setup on rush hour trains and it drives me nuts as they take 10 seats and 20 standee spaces out of use. Interestingly when the train goes from L to tunnel at Armitage, they pull all the tanks into the trailing cab and open up the area to passengers.
