NYSW Roster update..
I haven't updated the page yet: http://1stclass.mylargescale.com/Scotty ... squehanna/
but I will soon.

2014 has been a bad year for old NYSW locomotives..
SEVEN NYSW locomotives have been scrapped in 2014, and three have left the roster but will survive.

The NYSW Roster in January 2014:

2062 - EMD GP20 - OOS/Stored Binghamton
2064 - EMD GP20 - OOS/Stored Binghamton
2066 - EMD GP20 - OOS/Stored Binghamton

3010 - EMD SD40T-2 - (re-classed as a SD40-2 by NYSW.) OOS/Stored Serviceable, Binghamton
3012 - EMD SD40T-2 - operating
3014 - EMD SD40T-2 - operating
3016 - EMD SD40T-2 - operating

3042 - EMD GP40 - OOS Utica.

3618 - EMD SD45 - (re-classed as a SD45-2 by NYSW.) OOS/Stored Serviceable, Binghamton
3634 - EMD SD45 - (re-classed as a SD45-2 by NYSW.) OOS/Stored Serviceable, Binghamton

3636 - EMD F45 - OOS/Stored Utica.

3808 - EMD SD60 - operating
3810 - EMD SD60 - operating

4050 - EMD SD70M - OOS/Stored Binghamton
4052 - EMD SD70M - OOS/Stored Binghamton
4054 - EMD SD70M - OOS/Stored Binghamton

24 locomotives on the roster in January 2014, twelve operating, twelve OOS.

July 2014, the three GP20's are scrapped in Binghamton.
2062 - EMD GP20 - Scrapped July 2014, Binghamton
2064 - EMD GP20 - Scrapped July 2014, Binghamton
2062 - EMD GP20 - Scrapped July 2014, Binghamton

August 2014, NYSW Alco RS1 No. 240, scrapped in Wellsboro PA.

September 2014, The three NYSW SD70's are sold to NS and leave Binghamton
The only good news in this update! The SD70's have been purchased by NS, they will be rebuilt,
and will soldier on as NS units.
4050 - EMD SD70M - Sold to NS, September 2014.
4052 - EMD SD70M - Sold to NS, September 2014.
4054 - EMD SD70M - Sold to NS, September 2014.

September 2014, three units scrapped in Utica, including the last F45 in the eastern US.

(some good news, sister NYSW F45 3638 may be preserved! see my update above from June 5, 2014 for details)

Thats nine units off the roster in 2014..six scrapped and three sold. (and we still have three months to go!)

NYSW Roster on October 1, 2014.
(yes I know its not October yet! ;)

3618 - EMD SD45 - (re-classed as a SD45-2 by NYSW.) OOS/Stored Serviceable, Binghamton
3634 - EMD SD45 - (re-classed as a SD45-2 by NYSW.) OOS/Stored Serviceable, Binghamton

3800 - EMD SD60 - operating
3802 - EMD SD60 - operating
3804 - EMD SD60 - operating
3806 - EMD SD60 - operating
3808 - EMD SD60 - operating
3810 - EMD SD60 - operating

Fifteen units on the roster.
Twelve operating, three OOS.

Anyone have any updates for that current list? as far as operating/not operating?
thanks,
Scot

I recently read the 3012 and 3014 are getting sent out to Progress to be rebuilt into "Eco" units (I assume similar to the CP SD30eco's). Any truth??

Its 3012 and 3016, 3014 is not involved at this time.
The two units left Binghamton last week, headed out toward Buffalo on NS, the 3016 was set out on a siding in
Canasaraga NY, for unknown mechanical issues, where I caught her yesterday:

The 3012 has continued west, and was spotted going through Illinois a few days ago.
It is believed they are destined for Progress Rail's Mayfield Kentucky facility, to be converted to ECO units.
This is where CP's 6-axle ECO's are being built.
although the railfan community doesnt seem to be completely certain..
that is *probably* correct at this point, but I wouldnt call it 100% confirmed yet.

Very interesting. I'm a bit surprised they didn't include the 3010 as its reportedly sat for a few years now with a blown prime mover, but I'm sure they have their reasons for sending those other two. Regardless, it is cool to see they're investing in upgrading their own motive power. Thanks for the update!

Saw this email on the Yahoo NYSW group this morning - 2 of the SD70s have been released for active duty, 3rd on its way:

NS SD70M's 2798 (former NYSW 4052) and 2799 (former NYSW 4054) have been released to active service. The third unit, NS 2797 (former NYSW 4050), has been repainted but has not yet been released. Thanks to Kyle McKerrow for sharing his photos of NS 2798 and 2799 from today: http://www.nsdash9.com/rosters/2797.html

^Hey, Steve!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

From the NYS&W Railway Facebook page:

"Since I know many have been asking, we fired up 3618 today for the first time in 5 years, and moved it out of the shop under its own power."
