All of EMD's Dash-2 locomotives of the SD series(38, 40, 45, 40T & 45T) rode on a common 68' 10" frame. That's why an SD40-2 has generous front and rear porches and an SD45T-2 barely has breathing room. That said, the cab placement on an SD40-2 and SD40T-2 are the same. Therefore it looks like the rear porch of the 3012 is about the same size as would be found on a standard SD40-2.

The "tunnel motors" are nearly 2 feet longer than their brethren with standard radiators, approximately 70' 8". Source: http://utahrails.net/loconotes/SD40-2_T-2.php

So NYSW 3012 started out as a SD40T-2..
neary 2 feet longer than a SD40-2,
and it looks like, in her new form, the ECO long hood is perhaps shorter than a SD40-2!
Which might result in the 3012 having an extra-long rear porch! even longer than a SD40-2.
no good photos of the rear have surfaced yet..but its looking that way so far..

Agreed. Looking at the drawings they cite a length of 70' 8" knuckle-to-knuckle for a 40T & 45T. Even so, the 3012 looks like a normal SD40-2 with flared radiators. Let's hope it runs at good as it looks.

Is it me, or did they not even repaint these, just paint the new rear hood section and steps to match the existing paint?

Hey everyone, im working on updating the roster page..

Two things:

1. I have only 3010 and 3634 listed as currently OOS..everyone else is operating. Is that correct?

2.Anyone have a close-up photo that shows the model designation on the side of the cab of the new 3012 and 3016?
Is it SD33ECO or SD33-ECO?

thanks,
Scot

Hey everyone,
I got the answers to the questions above on another forum..the answers are "yes" and "SD33-ECO"

Page updated!

http://1stclass.mylargescale.com/scotty ... index.html

I made a change that we have debated here in this forum before:

Previously, I had all four of the tunnel motors listed as SD40T-2 on the roster, even though one had been re-classed as a SD40-2.

I had the SD45's listed as SD45's, even though NYSW had re-classed them as SD45-2's.

And I had the SD40 listed as a SD40, even though NYSW had re-classed it as a SD40-2.

My logic was that carbody trumps reclassification, especially when a Tunnel Motor body is so distinctive, and there is a clear difference between an as-built SD45 and an as-built SD45-2..It made more sense to me to keep the original classifications..

However, with the arrival of the SD33-ECO's, that is no longer possible! ;) There is no way listing a SD33-ECO as a SD40T-2 can be justified..the gray area is gone! ;) The transformation is too large..So I made the change and am now listing ALL the units as NYSW has them classified, and recording their original as-built model designations and carbodies in the notes..

thanks,
Scot

CSX has initiated B40-8 retirements, so the status of some of those former Susquehanna locomotives has changed. The 5931, 5935, 5936, 5937, 5943, and 5949 are all now officially retired.

http://railroadfan.com/phpbb/viewtopic. ... 39#p357839

CSX now has 11 B40-8's and 23 B20-8's, with most of those stored and further retirements imminent. So the days of these former GE's on CSX will soon be over.

And now all of those are retired as well. 4 axle GE's on the CSX roster, which have been a fixture since the very beginning, are now extinct.

And while this isn't specifically applicable to this topic, not only are the B40-8/B20-8's all been strickened, but the C40-8's all just went as well. Only C40-8W's and the interim C44-8W model survive now for Dash 8's on CSX.

highly unlikely given they even got rid of the four they'd kept. NYS&W is an all-EMD railroad right now.
