Conrail Express with E8s over Amtrak and Norfolk Southern

Postby TonytheTiger » Sun Oct 18, 2009 1:13 pm

In conjunction with their 2009 Convention, the Conrail Historical Society operated a Special train pulled by a pair of Pennsylvania E8s (The Conrail Express). They made a circle tour from Philadelphia, down the NE Corridor to Perryville Maryland, then up the Port Road branch to Enola, across the Rockville Bridge, and finally back to Philadelphia via Amtrak’s Keystone Corridor. I made three videos as it passed through Harrisburg. It pretty much rained the whole time, but I was determined to capture this momentous occasion.

We waited at Stell for its arrival. There were Twitter reports of its progress, but I didn’t have an internet connection at Stell. The Mainline dispatcher lined up the track for a pair of 80Macs first, so I begin this video with a trial run so that I could see what it would look like in the rain.

The Special continued through Enola yard, and I made the wrong decision as to where to set up, so I didn’t get good video, but I did get a good spot for its crossing of the Rockville Bridge, where is had to wait to meet the westbound Amtrak Pennsylvanian.

I heard it tell the dispatcher that it needed to top off at the fuel pad, so I headed for my favorite fuel pad location and waited.

I was railfanning this past weekend in Annville, PA - the weather that morning was a crappy misty rain - I have a short clip of some of my young "mis-adventures" with a camera/umbrella and trains...I'll post a "good" video later once I edit it! Comment and enjoy!! Don't forget to check out some of my other videos, including Horseshoe Curve and other Altoona area NS footage, as well as local tourist railroads too!

Nice job Kyle,
just want to give you a heads up , any locals out of Morrisville are Conrail symbols not NS, its Conrail Morrisville Yard, Norfolk Southern only owns the Intermodal side of things, rest is shared assets, that is why there are Conrail signs all over the place and you sometimes get a CSX unit or two. Though in recent months it seems to be all NS for SA power. Keep up the good work.

BKT

Nice video!
