Derailment in Charlemont 02-27-2017

Guilford Rail System changed its name to Pan Am Railways in 2006. Discussion relating to the current operations of the Boston & Maine, the Maine Central, and the Springfield Terminal railroads (as well as the Delaware & Hudson while it was under Guilford control until 1988). How did crew know train derailed if it didn't separate- what put train into emergency?

Coincidentally the engines could have run out of lube oil & shut down as the rail bed disintegrated behind them. This is Pan Am after all :-D

When the wheels come off the rail and go "in the dirt", the train suddenly pulls a LOT harder. Plus, you will usually feel tugging, especially with 18 cars. This is an immediate indication that something is wrong behind you.......

Passed the company crane and an older ten wheeler highrail MOW truck west bound on rt. 2 Monday around noon, guess that answered my question of where it was going !
