Derailment at Westford, MA 11-01-2016

Guilford Rail System changed its name to Pan Am Railways in 2006. Discussion relating to the current operations of the Boston & Maine, the Maine Central, and the Springfield Terminal railroads (as well as the Delaware & Hudson while it was under Guilford control until 1988). Pan Am says neither operator error or track caused derailment. From the Lowell Sun-

Following a preliminary investigation, Pan Am Executive Vice President Cynthia Scarano said the company has ruled out damage to the track and error by an employee as explanation for the derailment.

"All we stated was that we know that it was not track and we know that it was not operational error," she said in an interview. "We need to now look at the cars and see, as far as what sort of problem if any, there was with the cars."
