Curious then what is going on across the tracks, not up near the old offices but closer to the bridge/MOW entrance... is that also part of the new bridge build in some way or is that a different project?

Also wanted to see if someone can tell me about the grain train. Only seen it once or twice, curious to know where it originates/terminates and what days it runs on? Thanks!

There was a loaded one that was getting east of Fitchburg ~1200/08-16-2017 and should be in Ayer -- both West Main Street and the Willows -- for the next day-plus before heading west.

Thanks for the info. Never stopped by Ayer as I heard the views aren't that good. Any info on where that train originates/terminates at?

Some decent views can be had at Ayer -

Photo 1: Recently arrived grain train is being split in half at Ayer tower to proceed to Ardent Mills for unloading in May of 2016
Photo 2: the just emptied 1st half of the Grain Train heading west approaching Sandy Pond Rd at Ayer in Feb '16

First the Deerfield drama for 08-7-2018: Abutments are in place for a new McClelland Farm Road OHB -- AKA "The Railfans' Bridge" -- and it looks like the approach will be altered, as well. Besides that and about 0600, the only visible activity was a boom truck picking up ties. The yard radio was inactive, also.
At around 0508, D-3 and 23K had talked, the E saying that the C would be dealing with 15 handbrakes, and D-3 saying they'd be there awhile, "there" being Tyters, assuming the lines of wells and containers on the 1 with NS 9904 and couldn'tseewhatelse might be trailing power. The EB for Tyters was a Stop, so it seemed like nobody would be going anywhere soon. There was also some D-3 talk about 22K, cancelling at least 1 08-07 Form D, mebbe to a TC. NS 9140 -- 22K? -- would get a Form D with a Line 4 cuzza the washout, radio reception being too spotty for better details. To finish off 23K, D-3 would tell a TC at 1247 that 23K was about 3/4 of the way to Shelburne, and at 1325, WB containers were visible across the Deerfield and through the trees at Charlemont. Until after 0800, the fog along both the Millers and Deerfield Rivers was heavy enough. Around 1340, 28N called out an Approach for 381, so either way late or way early. Also, there was track equipment sitting just west of the Erving waste water facility.
Generations of railroaders and civilians got their caffeine and fat from Erving's Boxcar, and it is again possible to do just that, but not in the time-honored form. Assuming the sign out front is to be believed, hand-made chocolates are now available there. Gentrification in Erving?

If they do build the salt storage, how will trucks access it? The bridge under the Deerfield Loop is quite low.

Matt Baj Jr has posted three photos on the Eastern Railroad News Facebook page showing that a couple of girders have been erected on the new over-grade bridge being built just west of the "Railfan Bridge" at the west end of E Deerfield Yard. Photo vantage points of eastbounds entering the yard will now be somewhat obscured as work advances. Also I guess it's unclear how railfan-friendly the new bridge will be.
