How in the world are they even gonna get all those cars (80+ at times) over Hells Gate with their yard switchers and GPs that they have laying around. They better find some six-axles quick.

It's not like NYAR hasn't done it before.

It's unknown if CSX will retain the "line haul "rights from Oak Point to Selkirk, and just sell off the local freight rights and Oak Point-Fremont.
If NY&A gets Oak Point, they would need a batch of GP38-2's rigged for MN ASC/ACSES to handle switching and remaining local freight on
MN trackage, could also work the Hellgate transfer run to Fremont/Fresh Pond and to Bay Ridge as needed.

MTA would need to up the Tier IV loco order to make NYSDEC happy air quailty wise and replace the GP38-2's brought in to cover the expansion.
The other unknown if the "Paper Barrier" to P&W for general freight goes away.

This is pure comedy, keep dreaming about CSX giving up the east of Hudson, they make good revenue hauling the trash trains with a bare bones outpost (Oak Point).
And if this fantasy would happen, maybe GW would have some remote interest in this venture. They even might have the horsepower for the Albany-NYC run.
NYA....no, for so many reasons.

Yup, CSX ain't leaving east of hudson for all these reasons above. Primarily the trash haul: it goes to various landfills all in CSX routes. There's not much local work on the route to bog them down with extra cost. HPTM, NY&A interchange, the South Bronx trash loadout... all lean and easy to make money off of.

NY&A power has been used a few times over hell gate. If I recall right before hurricane sandy CSX pulled it's power out of oak point, and borrowed NY&A power for nighttime trip over the bridge a few days later, returning with a few much needed trash empties. CR and early CSX was all 4 axle on this route.

PC and CR normally used 4 axle power on OPSE/SEOP,Selkirk was a GE yard under PC/CR,U23B's to B23-7's,a bunch of Dewitt Geeps did a lot
of the switching,EMD switcher power was rare this way. This was due to 3rd rail clearance need on the former NYC electric division,
that finally became the Metro region under PC/CR.
PC kept the freight ops in the Northeastern Region,CR continued that "tradition" as the Metro Region was Passenger ops only for
the MTA service contract then in effect.
Believe the D&H was the first to run 6 axle power down the Hudson line to Oak Point, after modifying pilots and fuel tanks to clear the 3rd rail

New older power in the mix East of Hudson. CSX 1712 ECO unit one of 16 rebuilds from a few years back has made its way down recently. Not sure of long term plans. Good points in earlier posts as far as I know American Lumber is the last active freight switch left on the Hudson line. That’s a scary statistic being from even the Conrail era is whittled down to that sole costumer.

Where is American Lumber located, and how often are they switched / how many cars they usually take when switched? Thanks.

Chelsea Lumber in Chelsea, NY between Beacon and New Hamburg. They usually get 1 car and are now switched out by Q704.

Impeccable timing Greg last night 2/8/2108 B750 went up and down to Chelsea lumber. Came back the gp38,hack, and two TBOX’s. Sometimes the manifest looks like it has as many cars for Oak Point as it does for NYAR.

How are car counts looking on 704 post Harrison and the train combination? Has the worse passed in terms of service?

NYNJ seems to be picking up a lot of traffic. Is this largely new business, or CSX crossovers?

Everyone is busy. Same customers, just more cars.

Interesting observation today (2/16/18):

CSX #1712, along with a regular 88##, AND a New York and Atlantic Railway engine on the Hell Gate bridge, heading northbound as of 11:00 AM.
