BNSF: Heritage Hopper Cars

Postby MACTRAXX » Fri Sep 15, 2017 7:16 pm

Everyone:

From watching the Virtual Railfan webcam at the La Plata,Missouri Amtrak Station (former ATSF)
I took notice this past week of a BNSF covered hopper that was gray with BNSF marks left and a
CB&Q "Burlington Route" herald right - it stood out in a train of maroon BNSF covered hoppers.
This car looked near new and thankfully was not tagged. To me this was an interesting find...

I discovered that BNSF does have a small vintage herald covered hopper car fleet and that they
are being modeled by hobbyists that are interested in BNSF...

I previously was unaware of any program that had freight cars using ancestry heralds or color
schemes on recent equipment and think that this is a neat idea to commemorate the past...
I noticed that these were new in late 2013-four years ago now - new to someone like me that
is from far outside of BNSF territory...

(Note suggested vintage color schemes for BNSF locomotives - the Burlington prototype looks neat!)

This morning, the BN heritage hopper was on a grain drag inbound into Murray on the historic Q. it was in the hole west of Parkville.

The logo was peeling off.
