MMA Roster Moves

Postby CN9634 » Thu Dec 13, 2012 10:09 am

MMA has listed a large quantity of locomotives for sale to include, all the C30-7s, all the AMT & CDAC F40s and potentially a few of the B23-7s. They can be seen online here:

C30-7s: http://www.sterlingrail.com/classifieds ... hp?id=6441
F40s: http://www.ozarkmountainrailcar.com/cat ... =363&n=EMD
B23-7s: http://www.sterlingrail.com/classifieds ... hp?id=6035

The B23-7s are not sure of because the location says they are in Oklahoma, however the picture looks very much like MMA 2002: http://photos.nerail.org/showpic/?20100 ... 919428.jpg

Rumor is they are shopping for SD40-2s to replace these units.

Interesting timeline with the BAR and IR being exclusively EMD, and then RailWorld forcing Derby over to GE based and now potentially almost 50/50 GE/EMD mix. Keeping Derby on its toes.

I wonder if it's more a matter of standardization (B39-8 and the 2 "new" C39-8 at 3900HP with Dash 8 components vs the C30-7 and B23-7 with Dash 7 components) or is it lets get some money for these junkers before they fall apart?

Aren't there a bunch of C 30-7's in Estonia that Burkhardt sent over while RailWorld was involved?

New information suggests they are not looking at SD40-2s but rather higher horsepower GEs. C40-8s have recently come off lease from Class I's and they immediately come to mind.

Also the C30-7s are quite old and were pretty beat when MMA got them. They've had them nearly 10 years...

GE widecabs would look nice in maroon and gold.

The caption says "photo is representative" which I interpret as "we're using this photo to show you what a typical B23-7 looks like but it's not necessarily the one we're offering for sale."

It might have been from the same batch of ex-Santa Fe B23s that MMA bought from. There were several that went to other railroads.

True, but the ones in the 3600 series had been rebuilt shortly before MMA acquired them and were said to be in very good shape. Still, 10 years later, I imagine they're due for another rebuild.

Yes, C30-7s and C36-7s.

Here is one of the C36-7s in service: http://www.flickr.com/photos/22097570@N ... 40730@N24/

Slightly off topic but the Sterling Rail site also lists Ex BAR GP38M 364 (former BAR 97 and an ex MP unit) for sale in excellent condition for $250,000. The long strange trip for that engine continues.
