can't find exact reason, but there must have been some sort of major blockage of the main line. opposing equipment sets were short turned, and bus bridge.

Inbound crew had to be dog catched on 4(01),mech troubles or congestion on the transconn west of ABQ.

Amtrak service terminated between Providence and Boston due to electrical fire in gear on NEC near Forest Hills station at 6:45 AM Saturday 4/5/15. MBTA commuter rail diverting to/from Fairmount line at Readville for Providence service.

I'm searching for info on what was destroyed in fire - how much spare electrical gear does Amtrak keep on hand? How long does it take to rebuild heavily damaged switchgear? Delays on Monday? Catenary off for all day Sunday?

Hopefully the fire at Forest Hills isn't what knocked out Railroad.net for a few days!

Damaged Amtrak signal systems at the Forest Hills Station, which have caused commuter rail delays, could take months to fix, Amtrak officials said.

https://www.bostonglobe.com/metro/2015/ ... story.html

As I guessed, the pain was deep and widespread on Saturday, Sunday, Monday, and even into Tuesday. Seemed like the cascading equipment delays that accumulated during the day on Monday impacted the PM commute for the MBTA Framingham - Worcester commuter rail line: inability to get equipment into position led to delayed service.

Anyone know exactly what was lost?

We were headed to Boston for a day trip on Saturday, 4/4 (using 150/167) so we had a front row seat to all the fun.

150 was annulled at Providence, and we were directed to the commuter rail train (1860) that was held for us.

It was an interesting ride to say the least, it took just over 2 hours, and we were routed via the Fairmont Line (the first trip I ever had on it).

Kudos the crew on commuter rail for handling a sold out Amtrak train and their own passengers.

Later on that afternoon, no one at Amtrak's call center, or ticket booth knew what the plan was, and the mobile app and Julie had "no status" on 167.

That said, 167 arrived in Bay Back at 5:00 (20 minutes late), and got us to New London at 6:55.

On 167 our tickets can up as invalid, as they were never checked in on 150, but that's a talk for another day.

It seems like for the past couple of weeks, 4 has been running at least 2.5 hours late into KCY on Thursdays and Fridays. Next Friday, I'm going to be taking 4 from KCY-NPV.

With the west coast longshoremen strike settled, backlogged intermodel loads are moving east, adding
conjestion to the Transconn, some 39 miles of sloworders between Lajunta and Newton don't help.
Also meets of #3+#4 are happening at irregular locations instead of at Canyoncito, just east of Lamy.
Some of the passing sidings are hand throws instead of powered switches.

Work on a bridge near Niles Michigan. They ran early with a different number IIRC.

Does anyone know what happened to 50(11)? It was down about 1'40" when I boarded at CVS and only made up about 15 minutes of that by the time we reached NYP.
Welcome to New York Penn Station. You are in a maze of twisty little passages, all alike.
