SELECTED ON-TIME PERFORMANCE 11/3 THROUGH 12/2

Postby shlustig » Tue Dec 04, 2018 12:59 pm

Results for this period are:

TOTAL TRAINS = 1225

ON TIME = 436 (36%)

LATE = 789 (64%)

AVERAGE DELAY = 1' 12"

Of the late trains:
46% were 29" or less late;
20% were 30" to 59" late;
13% were 1' to 2' late;
20% were more than 2' late; and
>1% had no arrival time shown.

BY ROUTE WITH ON-TIME % AND AVERAGE DELAY:

CAPITOL LIMITED
#29 - 10% - 2' 27"
#30 - 10% - 2' 29"

CARDINAL (WAS)
#51 - 15% - 50"
#50 - 31% - 1' 16"

PENNSYLVANIAN
#43 - 37% - 44"
#42 - 18% - 35"

LAKE SHORE LIMITED
#49 - 7% - 2' 18"
#48 - 37% - 44"

LAKE SHORE LIMITED (BOSTON / ALBANY)
#449 - 43% - 40"
#448 - 10% - 2' 10"

CITY OF NEW ORLEANS
#59 - 90% - 58"
#58 - 73% - 47"

CRESCENT (WAS)
#19 - 0% - 4' 08"
#20 - 3% - 4' 00"

DETROIT CORRIDOR
(W) - 28% - 34"
(E) - 22% - 30"

ST. LOUIS CORRIDOR
(W) - 51% - 26"
(E) - 52% - 1' 02"

BUFFALO CORRIDOR
(W) - 13% - 36"
(E) - 30% - 54"

KANSAS CITY CORRIDOR
(W) - 77% - 18"
(E) - 63% - 35"

For the first time in the last 6 periods, a full complement of trains was reviewed. Unfortunately, the on-time performance decreased and the average delay increased.

The only services to show improvement in both measured categories were the eastbound Lake Shore Limited, northbound City of New Orleans, westbound KCY Corridor,
and both directions of the STL Corridor.

The number of trains more than 2' late doubled from the last period. Of the 158 such trains:
Crescent accounted for 52;
Lake Shore Limited for 39; and
Capitol Limited for 29 for a cumulative total of 76%.

Of the total delay minutes in this period:
Crescent accounted for 25%; Lake Shore Limited for 19%;
BUF Corridor for 15%; and
Capitol Limited for 14% for a cumulative total of 73%.

Given the apparent present status of Amtrak senior management, substantial corrective action is unlikely to occur.

In response to a couple of off-line queries:

1. Delays to both directions of the Capitol Limited and Lake Shore Limited were 24 to 30 trips each; and

2. I did not try to break out the delays to the Wolverine service on the DET Corridor over the NS section from Porter west.
However, it looked like about 50% of the delays were actually on the Amtrak portion east of Porter.
