So I was looking at the Galesburg station cam and 4 and 6 were literally three minutes apart. I know it happens sometimes but is that the distance dispatch will keep them apart? Three minutes.

Three minutes is about the minimum under the most common signal systems now in effect. It becomes possible to reduce that slightly on densely scheduled commuter lines where a more complex dispatching system has been installed -- not worth the expense unless everyday density requires it. Actually, for long-distance trains 3 minute headways can't be sustained because of the longer dwell time of such trains at stations. There's a good chance those trains were a lot further apart (in time) when they reached the junction west of Galesburg.
