SELECTED ON-TIME PERFORMANCE 8/5 THROUGH 9/3

Postby shlustig » Sat Sep 08, 2018 3:21 pm

Results for this period are:

TOTAL TRAINS = 1110

ON TIME = 411 (37%)

LATE = 699 (63%)

AVERAGE DELAY = 55"

Of the late trains:
48% were 29" or less late;
20% were 30" to 59" late;
15% were 1' to 2' late;
14% were more than 2' late; and
3% had no arrival time shown.

BY ROUTE, WITH ON-TIME % AND AVERAGE DELAY:

CAPITOL LIMITED
#29 - 3% - 1' 50"
#30 - 10% - 1' 36"

CARDINAL (WAS)
#51 - 46% - 31"
#50 - 15% - 52"

PENNSYLVANIAN
#43 - 43% - 24"
#42 - 31% - 13"

LAKE SHORE LIMITED
(#49)/#449 - 3% - 1' 31"
#48 - N/A

LAKE SHORE LIMITED (BOSTON / ALBANY)
#449 - 14% - 46"
#448 - 4% - 2' 05"

CITY OF NEW ORLEANS
#59 - 97% - 1' 27"
#58 - 80% 56"

CRESCENT (WAS)
#19 - 7% - 2' 27"
#20 - 3% - 2' 26"

DETROIT CORRIDOR
(W) - 31% - 32"
(E) - 29% - 27"

ST. LOUIS CORRIDOR
(W) - 49% - 25"
(E) - 56% - 1' 02"

BUFFALO CORRIDOR
(W) - 6% - 43"
(E) - 34% - 30"

KANSAS CITY CORRIDOR
(W) - 67% - 20"
(E) - 63% - 32"

The number of trains reviewed in this period remained depressed due to continuing programmed trackwork on the routes of the Lake Shore Limited and the DET and STL Corridors.

Services which improved in both measured categories included the eastbound Capitol Limited, Cardinal, and DET Corridor; the southbound Crescent; and both directions of the Pennsylvanian and the KCY Corridor.

The performances of the Lake Shore Limited, Capitol Limited, and Crescent continued to be woefully substandard in spite of some improvement. Of the 99 trains that were more than 2' late, these 3 trains accounted for 73 as well as for 55% of the total delay minutes in this period.

The OT performances for 120 recent trips of these 3 trains are:
7% for the westbound lake shore Limited;
3% and 6% for the westbound and eastbound Capitol limited; and
2% and 4% for the southbound and northbound Crescent.

By comparison, the figures for the City of New Orleans were 69% northbound and 78% southbound.

Still no sign of any effort to effect substantial improvement has appeared.

Notice you did not include western trains which mainly are 2 nights or 2 long days and a night. That may not be fair comparisons. The Crescent #20 performance is actually MHO worse than you post as it usually saves 30 + minutes WASH _- NYP

In response to an off-line query about the STL Corridor:

The reason for the greater average delay on the eastbound side of the route is due to the erratic performance of #22 eastbound Texas Eagle which had 4 instances of delay more than 3' 00".

Since #22 / 322 is the 3rd departure on the Corridor, Amtrak at one time provided equipment and crew to run an OT section if #22 was excessively late. This effort was discontinued many moons ago so that there is no coverage when #22 is known to be excessively late. As a result, corridor passengers have to wait 5' + for #304' time.
