Off-topic from the OP's question, but since customer inconvenience has been brought up regarding the escalator issue, here's another story channel 4 recently broadcast about the special misery commuter rail commuters get to experience when trying to leave the T's parking garage at Route 128. ... -gridlock/

This just reinforces the public's perception of MBTA customer service, for good reason.

Back on topic, up until last summer, I was a daily user of Route 128 station. It was frequently patrolled by Amtrak Police. I never saw MBTA Police there.

As the NECN story notes, the escalators at Route 128 have been an ongoing problem for a while now. The one leading from the northbound platform (where Amtrak trains discharge passengers) up to the pedestrian overpass that gets you to the station and garage was broken for well over a year, and when that finally got fixed the one connecting the station concourse with the overpass went out. There are a couple elevators but they're not enough to efficiently handle peak crowds. The parking garage exit issue is a separate problem that is the responsibility of the MBTA and their parking contractor rather than Amtrak... Amtrak doesn't run the garage.
