Metrolink failure

Ultimate embarrassment new F125 loco fails on roll out. Siemens must be hoping that their Chargers do not suffer same fate ? Tier 4 strikes again ?

Seeing as how the Chargers have already been running for months now with very few hiccups, they pretty clearly have not suffered this fate.

That's got to be the biggest PR failure for the officials at Cat/EMD with this model! :P
Wonder who got the honors to tow this unit back to the shop? :P

I heard the CEO of Metrolink berated the engineer and basically said, "move that locomotive, do you know who I am?". Um, the locomotive does not, and it has made the decision not to move...

In all seriousness, this is the kind of thing that can happen. There's an old wives tale of the CZ under WP dying on the main, with only one U-boat for power (it was a test to see if they could dump the F's). Turns out someone like Graham Claytor or DW Brosnan was a guest on board and suggested everybody in sight be fired. Obviously he couldn't do that as it wasn't their railroad.

this all seems pretty impressively off topic in an Amtrak forum

Indeed, except maybe evidence that Amtrak made a good acquisition decision for once in going with Siemens! And say what you want about the Charger's looks (I think it's not bad, not beautiful), it looks a lot less hideous than those new EMD beasts imho!

Yes at present the Chargers certainly appear to be the best decision. Brightline as well ! What is puzzling is part of California goes with the Chargers and Metrolink goes with the F125. Is this another example of NOCAL not talking to SOCAL ?

The F125 was on the market before the Charger, which makes it doubly puzzling how EMD managed to louse this up so badly. Glad Amtrak hasn’t gone with them, and sad to see EMD having fallen so far.

Considering Metrolink uses Amtrak as their operator.....I don't see it being off topic at all.
