SELECTED ON-TIME PERFORMANCE 10/9 TO 11/7

Postby shlustig » Sat Nov 11, 2017 2:55 pm

Results for this period are:

TOTAL TRAINS = 1189

ON TIME = 416 (35%)

LATE = 773 (65%)

AVERAGE DELAY = 49"

Of the late trains:
49% were 29 or less late;
22% were 30" to 59" late;
19% were 1' to 2' late;
9% were more than 2' late; and
1% had no arrival time shown.

BY ROUTE, WITH ON-TIME % AND AVERAGE DELAY:

CAPITOL LIMITED
#29 - 30% - 1' 06"
#30 - 31% - 1' 04"

CARDINAL (WAS)
#51 - 38% - 2' 55"
#50 - 17% - 1' 28"

PENNSYLVANIAN
#43 - 23% - 26"
#42 - 10% - 20"

LAKE SHORE LIMITED
#49 - 17% - 1' 19"
#48 - 27% - 53"

LAKE SHORE LIMITED (BOSTON / ALBANY)
#449 - 7% - 34"
#448 - 0% - 1' 14"

CITY OF NEW ORLEANS
#59 - 43% - 42"
#58 - 23% - 1' 52"

CRESCENT (WAS)
#19 - 0% - 2' 03"
#20 - 0% - 1' 59"

DETROIT CORRIDOR
(W) - 57% - 21"
(E) - 59% - 22"

ST. LOUIS CORRIDOR
(W) - 41% - 30"
(E) - 49% - 45"

BUFFALO CORRIDOR
(W) - 7% - 50"
(E) - 33% - 33"

KANSAS CITY CORRIDOR
(W) - 62% - 29"
(E) - 43% - 14"

Less than a full complement of trains was reviewed in this period due to programmed trackwork on the route of the Boston section of the Lake Shore Limited and to weather-related and other minor disruptions on other routes.

Results for this period were disappointing as the only service to show improvement in both measured categories was the eastbound DET Corridor. Otherwise, the number of late trains and the average delay increased substantially as did the number of trains that arrived more than 1' late. Of the trains that showed no arrival information, the majority occurred at CHI which is hard to understand.

Worst performing services continued to be the Lake Shore Limited, Crescent, and the westboun BUF Corridor. Combined, these services accounted for 39 of the 70 trains that were more than 2' late and for 53% of the total delay minutes in this period. For anybody keeping score, #49 the westbound Lake Shore Limited on the BUF Corridor has had 297 consecutive late arrivals at BUF; last OT arrival there was on Jan. 22nd.

The need for drastic corrective action by senior management is obvious but shows no signs of being forthcoming.

What corrective action do you suggest? The BUF Corridor comes under the control of CSX west of Albany, and Amtrak has proven to have next to no real influence at Jacksonville.

Some serious money and effort has been invested in improving this route. A new station at Rochester opened last month iirc to help Empire trains get out of the way of CSX freights. Years of work from Poughkeepsie to Schenectady, signaling, double-tracking, new tracks at the Albany-Rennselaer statio, and more.

But the only results from that project that I've seen so far is that I've learned to spell Schenectady. Not so sure about Rennselear! Anyway, I'm sure frustration is widespread.

The Crescent situation south of Atlanta is just what ( no words fit the problems ) ? Crescent #20 can often pick up time from Gastonia - WASH but not enough to allow on time arrivals at NYP. Suspect that this no on times can cause a dip in travel ? NS closing of the BHM hump is not helping either. Only more 2nd MT from ATL - Meridian may help ? Then of course the problems at Howell Jct just west of ATL station will not be solved since most of it falls on CSX but charged to NS.
