Monthly Performance Reports - gone from website?

Postby The Interloafer » Sat Nov 04, 2017 7:41 pm

Amtrak used to have a monthly report detailing ridership and revenue and other metrics by route. They were posted online at this link. I no longer see them. Anyone know what's going on? Are they gone for good or just somewhere else at Amtrak.com?

I agree Mr. Interloafer, I can't find them anywhere at this time - even using a desktop and full website.

I guess they figure if VIA Rail can get away with their opacity, why can't we?

Of course, there is the chance that they are still perfecting the new site. Why they needed a new site escapes me, but then they likely have a bloated "IT" department, plus consultants tripping over one another, that all need to justify their existence.

Thanks Mr. Norman. Argh this is disappointing. I enjoyed following along and watching as the numbers generally rose on various routes, including how my own travel played a (tiny) role. Hopefully they will restore the data.

Still no sign of them!

TRAINS Newswire has also noted the "absence" and the "non-response" from Amtrak:

http://trn.trains.com/news/news-wire/20 ... s-analysis

Fair Use:

That’s because sometime in early October, the company removed its monthly performance reports from the “About Amtrak” portion of its website, replacing them with “Host Railroad Reports” which only outline who has been "naughty" and "nice" in the timekeeping department. These were previously included as a section of the monthly performance reports.

Trains News Wire noted the absence weeks ago and asked Amtrak why the historical information was deleted, whether the deletion was permanent, and who at the company made the decision to remove the reports. The passenger railroad has yet to respond.

So Amtrak's operating partners have been releasing annual numbers for FY 2017. Are they getting these privately--and yet numbers are available for release, such as this story from West Virginia where NARP appears to be the source:
Ridership on Amtrak’s Cardinal train, the tri-weekly New-York-to-Chicago route that serves eight stops in southern West Virginia, saw a 7.25 percent jump in ridership for the 2016-17 federal fiscal year, according to company ridership and revenue reports.

The Cardinal carried 112,432 passengers for the year, up 7,601 riders from 2015-16.

so why not release the annual report?

They're BAACK; we'll of sorts.

Looks like a seven page "coloring book" is the replacement. However ridership and revenues by route remain.
