I hadn’t heard of outright cancellation of one Amtrak round-trip before, not on an American road at the freight line’s insistence. Not a good sign I think, this and the Southwest Chief shows that 1 Mass isn’t advocating effectively for LD service.

Well, there's the yearly annulment of the Crescent south of Atlanta too. I suspect Amtrak's contracts allow the host RR's to do this.

That isn’t true. Either was bookable to St. Louis on my last trip there.
