I believe a tie issue.

What happened to Crescent #19 yesterday to cause it to lose 1'24" between Manassas and Culpeper? If the problem was traffic, my question is why haven't VRE, NS and Amtrak double-tracked the few miles that are single in that stretch?

Amtrak took initiative due to Hurricane Michael and cut the Silver Star to between Miami and Jacksonville, Florida through Thursday, and the Palmetto to just between NY and DC through Thursday as well.

Given the latest storm track, that's understandable.

Luckily they also cut the Sunset Limited east of New Orleans.

:(

How about the Crescent and particularly the Silver Meteor? I could see it causing a lot of trouble for the Piedmont and Carolinian tomorrow. EDIT: I don’t see any announcements yet, which is strange for Amtrak. Maybe Michael took them by surprise, it wasn’t supposed to be this strong at first.

Northbound Crescent No. 20 of Oct. 11 is still shown scheduled to depart New Orleans at 7 a.m. Central Time. Southbound Crescent No. 19 is running 53 minutes late, not yet in Gainsville, Ga., and expected to arrive in New Orleans 33 minutes early tonight.
Southbound Silver Meteor No. 97 is approaching Savanah, Ga. from the coastal route, 1 hr., 28 min. late. It lost 1 hr., 11 min. between North Charleston and Yemasee, S.C. Northbound Silver Meteor No. 98 is scheduled to depart Miami at 8:10 a.m. Eastern Time, but it isn't yet on the map at https://www.amtrak.com/track-your-train.html.

The Northbound Crescent No. 20 of Nov. 11, already enroute, will terminate at Charlotte, N.C.

What about passengers already on the train?

Train 68 on Monday October 8th. Via Montreal Maintenance Centre delivered train late to Amtrak crew; rumored problem with locomotive. Departed Montreal about 50 minutes late. Lengthy delay at USA customs & immigration at Rouses Point NY, probably due to high passenger load (Thanksgiving Day in Canada and Columbus Day in USA). No significant delays enroute other than waiting for northbound Ethan Allen to pass us north of Fort Edward - Glens Falls. Arrived New York 2 hours late.

Something I noticed the other day. Amtrak has @AmtrakNECAlerts for the NEC and areas around, and also @AmtrakAlerts for everywhere else.

@AmtrakAlerts:
Texas Eagle Train 22/422 which departed SAS on 10/30 / LAX on 10/28 is currently operating about 3 hr 5 min late due to Railroad congestion and weather related delays along the route.

Was run as a PTC test train making several stops and slowdowns enroute.
