Train 48 of 12/24 was between 1 and 3 hours late throughout the run because it went into emergency three times. Air hose between the 4811 and 4812 Viewliners kept breaking apart. First was around 10:45 central, just out of Chicago, and the other two were on either side of Buffalo-Depew. After this there were also two instances where a set of air became a full service application uncommanded and the train came to a complete stop. Our engineer decided to stretch brake all the way to Albany to prevent the slack from bunching in and breaking the hose again. At Albany they took a look at the hose and decided that it was fine but the conductor had kept raising it up too high after each emergency stop so it wasn’t straight. We also had to stop just outside of Buffalo while CSX fixed the switch into the platform track, and we had to flag a crossing on Metro North.

Lake Shore #48 left Chicago 12/28 on time and was over 5 hours late at it's first stop in South Bend. Anyone know what happened? It arrived in Toledo about the same time as the 3 hour late Capital Ltd #29

The weather outside was frightful. I would not be surprised what froze up in the extreme temperatures along the lakefront.

Westbound Cap #29 that left DC Friday, had an extended stay in Cumberland, Md. Was at Pittsburg around 8am Saturday around 8 hours late.
"Edit": Found out CSX derailled 9 cars at Hyndman, PA again. Held Cap in Cumberland until clear.

Looks like it may have been annulled at that point. #30 seems to have been cancelled as well.
So much for precision scheduled railroading on CSX.

Looks like #30 (31) was annulled at Pittsburgh? And #29 didn't run at all?

Something going on with that section of CSX rail. Googling around netted me not only the second Hyndman PA derailment, but also two vehicle-on-track hits in the past week in Pennsylvania.

CSX derailment by Utica yesterday caused havoc and today it's a broken rail on the Empire Connection

NB Vermonter #56 (3) running five hours late into Springfield MA.
Lost three hours between Trenton and Newark NJ, another hour
between Newark and NYP and another hour in CT and MA.

Depending on re-crew, HOS, etc., the SB on Thursday will likely be
hours late leaving St. Albans.

There are so many delays from this weather that you could start anywhere. Just to clarify problems VIA is having its problems along the whole system One Canadian #1 is already 17 hours late just after leaving a few hours out of Toronto. Freezing rain has US killed switches and a report that 98 derailed at SAV station after having to back in.
