161.4100 Use???

Postby MNCRR9000 » Tue Feb 23, 2010 10:24 am

I happened to come across the frequency 161.4100 MHz and was curious as to what it is used for. I know that 160.4100 is used for New Haven Maintenance Of Way but haven't seen 161.4100 anywhere.

Thanks

161.410 is not an AAR channel it is a frequency between channel 86 and 87 here are all the locations looks to be on only used on the hudson line could be a shop or railroad channel and MNCR is the only person on that Frequency in the whole USA per the FCC also maybe it could be SCADA

I don't believe there is a MNCR channel for 161.410 there is for 160.410 which is in AAR channels.

Its interesting after looking at that FCC information it looks like it is only licensed to the Dover Plains train station.

It would be rather unusual to be SCADA if it's a single frequency - most systems are a pair of frequencies.

Put a scanner on it and see what you hear...

161.410 is not an AAR channel. MN uses 160.410 (AAR channel 20) for the 3rd rail dept and the structures dept mainly on the Harlem and Hudson Lines.

A few mistakes.

GCT station Masters office is AAR channel 70 (161.160).

161.070 (AAR channel 64) is actually a Conrail channel found on most MN engines and MU's, and is seldom used.

160.770 (AAR channel 44) is used for Harmon Shop.

Clean Cab, you mentioned that 160.4100 MHz is used for the 3rd rail department, and structures on the Harlem and Hudson Line, from the sources I looked at they have 160.4100 listed as New Haven MOW and 161.1600 MHz as the Harlem and Hudson MOW. Radioreference.com and n2nov.net have 160.410 listed as NH MOW.

The channels Clean Cab listed are correct. I have good sources in the MN Radio Shop and I trust their word over some on line list.

If you listen to 160.410 in MN 3rd rail territory, all you'll hear is the 3rd rail and B&B depts. The NH Line power dept did use 161.160, but these days most of their comminications are done with Nextel radios, so very little is heard on that frequency.

I have two portable radios and I have all channels checked by the MN Radio Dept for accuracy.

Thanks for the response clean cab I just wanted to double check. Thats interesting that the New Haven Line Power department uses Nextels while the 3rd rail department still uses the radio frequencies.

Thanks for the list Capecodlocoguy. Thats perfect. I know this is a little off topic but you by any chance wouldn't happen to have a accurate list of frequencies for Providence and Worcester would you?

Has anyone heard anything about "narrow-banding" and the redesignating of the AAR channels in this region? Seems unfortunate to have the railroads in the area deal with this on top of the PTC mandate and other expenses in this day of budget issues.
