Scanner got stolen... recommend an inexpensive replacement?

Postby MEC407 » Fri Oct 23, 2009 8:43 pm

My handheld scanner got stolen out of my truck a couple of years ago. (The doors were locked.) :( It was a Radio Shack Pro-79, I think, and it worked very well for picking up local railroad transmissions. Radio Shack no longer makes that model. Does anyone have a recommendation for a handheld scanner with similar features and good reception, preferably at an affordable price? I've been looking at the Uniden BC72XLT, which sells for around $75-$100, but it gets mixed reviews, and I really can't afford to spend more than that.

I just went to Radio Shack's site. Apparently, Radio Shack also discontinued the PRO-135, which I have and works quite well. For your price range, I guess you'll have to go with the Bearcat scanner you mentioned---if you want new. There's always ebay, too.

I guess I'll be checking ebay and craigslist. Thanks. :-)

Sorry for being so late, hopefully not too late, but I just bought the Pro-404 200-channel scanner for $100 at Radioshack & it has done me wonders.
