Existing Alco Owned Diesels?

Postby mandealco » Tue Oct 28, 2014 3:41 am

Hi
Just wondering how many Alco owned demonstrator or shop diesels are still out there? I know plant switcher #5 is still about. Two of the C-636 demos are parked in Cohocton, but what else is out there? Four of the 5 RS-27s went to UP, with one ending up as an MLW lease unit (676?) then to Devco. The 5th demo was reported as rebuilt as a C-424 for Pennsy. Who ended up with the RS-11s? Anyone know of any more?

Where did all the demos end up? C-628 to SP. C-430 to Seaboard/L&N.

Cheers
Steve

The C628's are easy: all the C628 demonstrators are scrapped.
because there are only three existing C628's in the world, two in a museum in Mexico,
and one in a museum in Australia.
One built new for a Mexican railroad,
one built new for the D&H (the only C628 from a US-railroad that still exists, its in Mexico today.)
and one built new for Australia.
None of the three were a demonstrator.

Hi,

Actually, the three RS11 demonstrators became SP 5720-5722 (later 2900-2902).

I don't know of any that were saved.
