Detroit & Mackinaw 1280

Postby mandealco » Mon Jan 20, 2014 3:17 pm

Hi
I see on Don Ross's site the following:

"2439, C425, Class AF-25 was built in December 1965, #3433-03, as PRR 2439, Class AF-25. It became PC 2439, Class AF-25, in 1968 and Conrail 2439, Class C-425, in April 1976. It was renumbered 5073 in October 1979 and rebuilt by General Electric in February 1981 as Detroit & Mackinaw 1280. It was donated to the Saginaw Railroad Museum in 2011."

I thought the Alcos were mostly scrapped, including the 1280. Is Don's site correct? If so, we may have to add the museum to our vacation itinerary.

Cheers
Steve

There were rumors that 1280 would be saved/donated to said museum. That didn't happen, and 1280 and the others were sold to Waymore Power of Piasa, IL. 1280 was scrapped by Waymore, a company that specializes in Alco parts and service, in Saginaw, MI on November 17, 2011. The museum did end up acquiring by way of donation from the local utility, an RS-1 of Rutland heritage.

Thanks for the update Jim. I had a cab ride in the 1280 in 1985, so I was hoping to get some detail photos to help me build an N-scale model of her. Had my hopes up for a while
Cheers

refresh my memory, who -actually- has ended up with 469 and what is it's future/fate? So many rumors and things that were "gonna happen" and didn't with the LSRC Alcos I've lost track. Thanks!
