Railroad Myth/Folklore origins

Postby dpwmusicus@yahoo.com » Thu Jun 14, 2012 7:04 pm

Hello - I am interested in finding the origins of two separate, but related railroad folk tales. The first is the tale of the hell-bound or down bound train (according to a song by Chuck Berry). The second appears to be a more recent phenomenon/story - that of the apocalypse train. I am an American composer interested in using elements of these railroad myths in a new work. Any books, websites, or other source suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks!
