Yikes. It seems that every time you make a model of a VIA engine it gets wrecked. Maybe it's time to stop?

It appears that Athearn made a ready to run model which may have been written off: P42 #66 the Phase 2 heritage unit. I have a model of #66 which I got for Christmas of 2011.

I have a relatively rare Proto 1000 model of Reading RDC-1 9164 which was destroyed in a collision with a gasoline tank truck in Southampton, PA on January 2, 1982. More tragically, the engineer succumbed to his injuries a few days after the crash.

I would not call Amtrak 66 a"write off",more likely stuck in "Legal limbo" as evidence by Amtrak's legal Dept,
if there're pending lawsuits from the grade crossing accident 66 was in. :(
