Discussion of the L&NR railroad for the period 1868-1961 at its inclusion in the Central of New Jersey. Also includes predecessors South Mountain and Boston Railroad, Pennsylvania, Poughkeepsie and New England Railroad, and others.
Ever wonder about how the Jersey's Central's purchase of portions of the Lehigh & New England came about? We found a copy of a book published in April of 1960 that was originally released as a report to the Central Railroad of New Jersey by the consulting engineering firm of Coverdale & Colpitts to analyze the purchase of the portions of the Lehigh & New England Railroad in the cement and the anthracite coal region while abandoning the rest of the line. In this report you will find a detailed look at the current traffic on the L&NE as well as the financial justification for the CNJ to purchase these portions of the L&NE. The book is 42 pages long plus an 11' X 17" fold out color map. I am offering it through the Phoebe Snow Company. It is a great reference tool, not to mention lots of interesting reading! We are asking $12.95 a copy, plus $4.00 for shipping in a padded envelope. They are in stock and will ship right away upon order.
